Fifty Pence Coin

Fifty Pence CoinIn 1969 the UK Royal Mint introduced the Fifty Pence Coin, it was to be used instead of the Ten Shilling note and was part of the UK transformation to the decimal coinage system. In 1997 the size of the fifty pence coin was reduced from 30 millimetres to 27.3 millimetres.
There were three designs to the reverse side of the large fifty pence coin along with three designs for commemorative issues, In 1973 the design represented the UK's accession to the EEC. For 1992 it Commemorated the British presidency of the EC and in 1994 it commemorated the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings. For the smaller fifty pence coin, again there have been three standard designs but since 2003 a commemorative coin has been minted, with some years two events commemorated.

The Fifty Pence proof coins shown below represent the best value for collectors and investors alike, the mintage numbers are kept low, which in turn helps keep their value.
